THESE SUPERFOODS PACK A NUTRITIONAL PUNCH

They can strengthen the immune system, improve digestion, even give your pet way more energy — but that’s not all. Superfoods have a lot of power, and they’re here to save the day. See how each of these ingredients can help with common issues and improve your pet’s overall wellbeing.

MUSHROOMS

Loaded with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, vitamins and minerals, mushrooms are a powerful immunity booster. Studies show certain types, including reishi, turkey tail and cordyceps, can even help prevent or treat cancer. In general, mushrooms that are safe for us are safe for pets. But make sure your pet never eats any wild mushrooms, as they can be poisonous.

LEAFY GREENS

Leafy greens, including kale, collard greens, broccoli, spinach and lettuce, are full of antioxidants. They are also a great source of vitamins C and K, plus iron, calcium and other minerals.

BERRIES

Cranberries and blueberries deliver healthy doses of antioxidants. Cranberries are also known to support bladder health. These berries, along with raspberries, strawberries and pomegranates, are packed with Vitamin C, minerals, fiber and other phytonutrients. Avoid feeding your pet grapes and raisins, as they can be toxic.

RAW FERMENTED FOOD

Fermentation makes food more digestible, increases the bioavailability of nutrients, and it’s a source of good probiotic bacteria.

FREEZE-DRIED RAW

Real meat, but with moisture removed so it doesn’t have to be refrigerated. It’s dense with nutrients that improve skin, coat, dental health and energy.

PUMPKIN

The flesh and seeds are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Pumpkin is also full of fiber, which can firm up loose stools or ease constipation, and moisture, which adds extra hydration to your pet’s diet.

BONE BROTH

Helps prevent dehydration by adding moisture to your pet’s diet. Excellent source of collagen for healthy skin, coat, and joints. Also has trace minerals.

TURMERIC

The active ingredient, curcumin, is packed with antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties that are especially helpful for active dogs and those with painful arthritis.

PROBIOTIC

The “good” bacteria found in probiotics are one of the first lines of defense against disease-causing pathogens. Helps your pet’s stomach digest food easier and intestines absorb more nutrients.

KELP

Rich in chlorophyll, a phytonutrient which strengthens immune system function, and iodine, a mineral that is essential for thyroid function. Also a good source of other trace minerals, vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants.

ANCIENT GRAINS

These whole, unaltered grains are packed with more nutrients than modern wheat. Lots of fiber to support gut health. Lots of B vitamins (a vital group for dogs) and amino acids (which are important for healthy skin and coat).

COCONUT OIL

Helps stop dry, itchy skin from the inside out. Can also rub it on topically. High in medium-chain triglycerides, which are a great source of energy, and high in lauric acid, which provides antibactrial, antiviral, and antifungal benefits.
